Bidjar (Bijar) rugs are handcrafted in the Northwestern Regions of Iran as they are known for their exquisite use of wool. The weaver pounds down each row of knots to give its traditional stiff and heavy quality. This technique helps prevent salt, gravel and other small particles from pressing into the foundation of the carpet. No wonder they are called the Iron Carpets! They can withstand up to 200+ years of heavy use!
